Books available

Liz loves to write as well as paint. She contributes articles on all aspects of watercolour technique to magazines in the UK and has written four practical art books, which are published by The Crowood Press.

Painting Watercolours on Canvas

Liz's first book is an introduction to the technique of painting watercolour on canvas. Now watercolourists don't have to hide their paintings under a mount and glass. Published by The Crowood Press the book is available from bookshops and Amazon. For a preview go to YouTube. The Book Depository does free international shipping for people outside of the UK.

Painting Animals in Watercolour

Liz's second book was published in November 2020. In it she takes you from the foundation techniques, through to more experimental approaches. It is illustrated throughout with her joyful celebrations of the animal kingdom. The Painting Animals in Watercolour course on this site, brings these techniques to life for you. The Book Depository does free international shipping for those outside of the UK. If you would like to see a preview, please go to YouTube

Line and Wash Painting

Published in January 2022 this is Liz's third book. This practical book shows you how to exploit the strength of ink with the transparency of watercolour to produce powerful and dynamic paints. It is available online, in book shops and direct from the publisher, The Crowood Press. If you live outside of the UK, The Book Depository does free international shipping.  To see a preview please go to YouTube

Painting Birds in Watercolour

Published in July 2022, this is my fourth book and it celebrates the love of things with wings. It is deeply practical helping the artist understand how to capture the character of the bird rather than getting caught up in detail. It costs £12.99 and is available from The Crowood Press or from your usual bookshop or online retailer. Very kindly Crowood is offering a 20% discount if you use BIRDS20 at checkout.

Painting Portraits in Watercolour

Published in September 2023, this joyful book gives you the confidence and skills to paint lively, contemporary faces and characters. Unusually, it teaches how to paint before exploring the drawing skillset necessary to capture a likeness, and thereby encourages the artist to try this genre. By explaining the techniques in clear steps with plenty of examples, it makes painting exciting and energetic portraits achievable by all..

Reviews of Painting Watercolours on Canvas

A comprehensive, logically structured and beautfully presented guide for novices and more experienced artists.

The back cover mentions the author also teaches so I looked up her website where a range of courses are listed.

This is a fabulous book with amazing detail and thorough guidance on watercolour painting on a surface new to me. The information relating to the process and supplies used is fantastic. I will be using the instructions provided to help with composition and step by step guides to replicate some of Liz's paintings in the hope of improving my skills on paper as well.

The author explains very clearly in great detail how to go about creating paintings with watercoour on canvas. Good examples of her own work as well. Highly recommended for anyone interested in this technique
