FAQs

What materials do I need for each course?

The materials you need for each course are set out in the introduction and preview section, so that you can see what is required before paying for the course. It does vary from course to course. Liz will try and offer alternative colours, but it is the techniques which are important, so do substitute materials. However, it is worth treating yourself to the best materials you can afford. For example, the quality of your paper makes a huge difference. If you don't use watercolour paper, or a poor quality one, you will find it very, very frustrating!

What experience do I need to do these courses?

The introduction and preview section of each course will let you know what experience you need. Some will be obvious eg the taster course is for beginners, and some will be suitable for a wide range of experience.

What is your refund policy?

Liz hopes that you will find the course enjoyable and challenging, however if after purchase you look at the content and decide you have bought the wrong thing, then you will be refunded in full if you so request by email within 24 hours of purchase. No refund is possible after this time, so please read information carefully and watch any preview material so that you are sure you are happy with your purchase.

How long do I have access to this course?

There is no time limit on your access to the courses, so you can go at your own pace and repeat them as many times as you want. They will be available for as long as Liz continues to offer online programmes. She does reserve the right to change, add to and improve the course. Should, for example, the course platform provider (Podia) cease trading, Liz will endeavour to find an alternative. You must understand that this will be a circumstance outside of her control.

What is your privacy policy?

We value our students and we know your privacy is important to you. By using the Website you are accepting the practices described here.

We collect some personal information when you place an order and will use it to communicate with you, screen our orders for potential risk or fraud and when you have given permission to provide you with information relating to our products or services.

We also collect some device information via cookies, which lets us see which pages you have visited etc. This may be used to improve our services.

Can I ask questions directly of Liz?

The contents of the course is pre-recorded and not taught live. The advantage is that you can go at your own pace and repeat any modules you want, however it does mean that there is no opportunity to ask questions. If you would like to join a private FaceBook group, where you can share your work and get feedback, please follow the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/694706731930461

Can I get individual feedback on my work?

If the comments are going  to be constructive and helpful, giving an individual critique of paintings is very time consuming. That has not been included as part of this course. Please don't email your work to Liz to ask for further feedback, as she hates to disappoint, but will have to say no. However, there is a private FaceBook group you might like to join. It's very friendly and supportive: https://www.facebook.com/groups/694706731930461

How old do I need to be to do this course?

The age range of  students is wide and the content has been designed to appeal to people of any age and ability. However, in the interest of children’s online safety we do have a minimum age requirement of 13 years.

What language is the course taught in?

The course is taught in English without subtitles.

Who do I contact if I have a technical problem?

The learning platform is provided by Podia and therefore it has robust controls in place. However if you notice a broken link or missing content, Liz would be very grateful if you could get in touch via the contact tab at the top of the site. We are unable to help with your own computer equipment or wifi connection for example, however you need no technical expertise to access the courses - just click and start learning.

What experience has Liz got?

Liz has been painting in watercolour for nearly 20 years. She has taught for five and been a full time artist for over three. During that time she has helped many individuals find their own artistic voice.

Which is better for me, the face to face workshop or the online course? Do they cover the same material?

Liz's online courses and face to face workshops do cover similar ground. You need to consider your learning style and what will suit you. If you live a distance from Berkshire, the online course offers flexibility and covers more content that we can do in a single day. If you live within easy access to Berkshire, then the workshops include all artist quality materials and the opportunity for individual support and group learning. On this occassion it is 'horses for courses'!

Can I use the contents of the courses to teach my own workshops? If I paint something from one of Liz's paintings, can I exhibit and sell it?

It's taken a long time for Liz to develop her own style and to plan the workshops, so if you lift the exercises shown here to run your own events it is not very fair is it? And it is against international law. So please play fair and respect her intellectual copyright.

The same goes for paintings. If you create something you are proud of on the course (and Liz hopes you will), then by all means share it on social media or in real life, but give a credit ('After Liz Chaderton' or 'From a demonstration by Liz Chaderton' would be great). You should not sell this work. However, if you go on to paint your own work using the skills you have learnt, that is the whole point! Liz will be delighted to see you develop your own style and you own the copyright to that work. We all know where the line is if we think about it. Just don't pass off other people's work as your own - simple!

Can I download the videos to work off line?

The content is hosted on Podia, so you need an internet connection to access them. Regretfully they are not available to download to use off line.

Do I have to work through the modules in order?

The course has been designed to build skills and experience from module to module, however it is entirely up to you if you want to skip to the final project first. This is the joy (and peril) of doing the course online and at your own pace.

What currencies do you accept and what are your exchange rates?

You can pay via your debit/credit card using Stripe. Stripe has stringent security measures in place to protect you from fraud and also deal in every currency. The exchange rate on the day will vary and can be checked on either provider's website.

My question hasn't been answered. Where can I get more help?

Just use the contact tab at the top of the page and we will try to help. Remember that Liz is a one-woman band, so the answer may not be instant!

I don't really like loose watercolours and I don't really like Liz's style.

No problem. We all have personal taste. Some people like detail and muted colours, some like broad brush strokes. Look elsewhere for an artist whose work you love and respect. Your aim should be to learn from them and then to put the techniques together in a unique way, which will become your own personal style. Don't aim to paint like someone else, aim to paint like you.
